Senior/Principal Civil Engineer

Purpose & Scope of the Role\n\nThis role offers the opportunity to join a growing civil engineering team based in either Edinburgh or Belfast, delivering projects across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and beyond. Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, you will lead the design and delivery of civil infrastructure schemes while supporting the continued growth of regional capability.\n\nThis is a varied and technically engaging position with clear opportunities for progression into leadership.\n\nYour Impact in this Position\n\nYou will play a key role in delivering projects from concept through to completion, balancing technical excellence, commercial awareness, and client engagement. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards.\n\nYou will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, contribute to business development activities, and support the mentoring and development of junior engineers.\n\nCore Capabilities\n\nTechnical Delivery & Design\n\n· Lead civil engineering design using industry standards and best practice\n\n· Produce high-quality technical outputs across drainage, infrastructure, and site development projects\n\nProject & Commercial Management\n\n· Manage project resources, budgets, and delivery programmes effectively\n\n· Support fee proposals and monitor project profitability\n\nStakeholder Engagement\n\n· Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities\n\n· Secure approvals and represent the business professionally across projects\n\nCollaboration & Team Development\n\n· Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across the UK\n\n· Mentor graduates, apprentices, and junior engineers\n\nQuality, Safety & Professional Standards\n\n· Champion health, safety, and technical excellence\n\n· Ensure compliance with all relevant standards, procedures, and quality requirements\n\nSkills, Qualifications & Experience\n\n· Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng or MEng)\n\n· Approximately 5–10 years’ industry experience\n\n· Chartered status, or working towards chartership\n\n· Strong knowledge of civil engineering design standards and best practice\n\n· Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, and Microsoft Office\n\n· Strong communication skills and commercial awareness\n\n· Proactive approach to professional development and team collaboration\n\nWorking Environment\n\nThis is a hybrid role based in Edinburgh, typically involving 2–3 days per week in the office.
